Tribute to Dad
Dear Daddy,
The last time I spoke to you, I was so excited I could hear your voice again after three weeks. Unknown to me, the long break was a dress rehearsal for a reality that was imminent. You were either sleeping or trying to eat or being attended to by the doctor or some other thing. I insisted that morning I must hear your voice which sounded like gold to me. Now I am faced with the reality I will not hear it again except in my memories. We miss you already but I know we will miss you more in the days ahead.
Thank you for the good memories you left behind of bathing us when we were boys and taking us on holidays to the village, Kaduna, Ibadan and Lagos. Thank you for the visits when I was at Titcombe College Egbe, and the numerous ones to us after marriage. Thank you for insisting on phone calls and visits. You taught us to value family. You connected with all your grandchildren and named them after the family name. Adeoluwa, Adetola, Adesewa and Demilade all miss you. You can be sure we will continue in your footsteps. You taught us to love our relatives and in-laws and value friends and neighbours. We learnt generosity, kindness and self-sacrifice from you. We remember your frequent travels and hard work in your quest for finances to care for the family. We learnt responsibility from you. You modelled humility and simplicity and taught us not to be selfish in our dealings with people.
I am particularly thankful that you had your personal encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ and served Him with dedication and devotion. We therefore with hope and patience look forward to our reunion with you in the presence of the master where we will join you in exploring the glories of the celestial plane and the splendour of God’s universe, world without end.
Victor Adebayo Adeyemi (Son)
