Biography

Elder Adeyemi: A Life of Devotion and Service

Elder Babatunde Aremu Adeyemi’s journey on earth began on June 30, 1936, in the quiet town of Odo-Ere, Kogi State. Little did anyone know that this humble beginning would unfold into a tapestry of service, faith, and unwavering dedication.

As a young boy, Babatunde’s curiosity knew no bounds. From the dusty wrestling grounds of his childhood to the hallowed halls of academia and career trajectories, he embraced every opportunity to learn and grow. His early education at SIM/ECWA primary school and Yagba West Central School laid the foundation for a lifetime of curiosity and connections.

But it was at his father’s side, amidst the rhythmic sounds of hammers and saws, that young Babatunde discovered his true passion—building. This love of construction would become a metaphor for his life’s work: building not just structures but communities and lives.

In 1965, Babatunde’s life took on new meaning when he married the lovely Mercy Mosunmola Ajayi. Together, they built a loving family, welcoming Samuel, Victor, Janet, Adebunmi, Adewale, Tiwalade and Adekemi into the world. Yet, Elder Adeyemi’s capacity for care extended far beyond his immediate family, touching countless lives in his community.

His professional journey led him from public service to the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University’s Institute of Agricultural Research. Even in retirement, Elder Adeyemi’s commitment to service burned bright, leading him into the political arena with the National Party of Nigeria.

Throughout his life, Elder Adeyemi remained a pillar of faith and compassion. His involvement in community initiatives spoke volumes of his belief in the power of collective action and the importance of lifting others. His humility and kindness made him a leader, friend, and mentor to many.
As we bid farewell to Elder Babatunde Aremu Adeyemi, we celebrate a well-lived life that serves as a blueprint for service, faith, and love. Though he has left this earthly realm, his legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the community he served, and the family he cherished.
He is survived by his doting wife, Mosunmola Adeyemi and exceptional children – Samuel Adeyemi, Victor Adeyemi, Janet Obazee, Adebunmi Abe, Adewale Adeyemi, Tiwalade Oloyede and Adekemi Adeyemi; their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
