Tribute to a great dad

My dad was a very kind and generous man, soft spoken and a complete gentleman. I didn’t really
spend much of my early childhood age with him, except when I came visiting on holidays, and the
last eleven years prior to his transition to be with the Lord when my family relocated to Ilorin from
Port Harcourt. During these periods, he made his love and concerns for me very clear.

As though he desperately wanted to make up for my childhood days I lived outside his presence, Dad
consistently spoilt me and my family with gifts every week. He ensured he gets something pleasant,
edible, football or toys etc for me, my husband and my son respectively.

He would insist we come through his house every Sunday after service with food and drinks already
prepared for us. When there wasn’t homemade food, he would have ordered from good eateries
around. He did this so committedly that I had to tell him and mum that their actions were causing
food wastages in my own home.

Daddy As A Generous Father
I grew up seeing relations and non-relations living under my father’s roof and sponsored through
schools by him.
I had a full grasp of this when in my adult age I still saw people, young and old trooped into my
father’s house seeking for one thing or the other. My dad would hardly let you go away empty
handed. I can’t remember how many children I saw him assisted financially and with other gifts such
as food items etc.

My Dad As An Encourager
I happened to marry late. My father unlike many parents never dampened my spirit. He kept
assuring me of his faith in Christ that the phase would pass. Indeed, he rejoiced greatly when it
happened. There were some other trying periods in my life that he stood by me lovingly and help me
wade through them all.
Dad! I count it a great privilege to be around you, cared for you and honoured your love for me while
you were on the sick bed. Your good humour and love linger in Demilade’s heart.
My family and I will miss you dearly. Until we see and part no more in His presence, I will always love
you.

Your daughter, Janet Obazee.
